Solomon Islands has used its commemorative coinage program extensively since the 1990s as a revenue mechanism, licensing foreign themes with no domestic connection — the Great Sphinx falls squarely into that category. These pieces were produced for the collector market, almost certainly by a European contract mint, and saw no meaningful circulation in Honiara.
