Additional information

Niue has issued commemorative silver dollars under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, effectively functioning as a vehicle for third-party themed collectibles with legal tender status. This piece belongs to a series honoring Soviet-era automobiles, specifically the GAZ-21 Volga — a mid-size car produced in Gorky from 1956 to 1970 that became the default vehicle of Soviet bureaucrats, taxi fleets, and KGB operatives alike. Export versions reached Finland, Belgium, and Egypt in modest numbers.

The GAZ-21 was notably offered in early production runs with a deer hood ornament, later discontinued.
