Additional information

Niue has long operated as a prolific licensing hub for commemorative silver issues, with the New Zealand-administered territory generating revenue by authorizing foreign-themed coin programs that have no connection to local commerce. This piece belongs to that cottage industry — specifically a series honoring Soviet-era automobiles, the GAZ 12 ZIM being a large prestige limousine produced from 1950 to 1959 and named after the Zavod imeni Molotova factory before de-Stalinization prompted the plant's quiet renaming to GAZ.

The ZIM was briefly available to senior Party functionaries and high-ranking military officers, though Khrushchev reportedly found it insufficiently impressive and pushed development toward the Chaika.
