Additional information

The "Femme se coiffant" subject derives from Edgar Degas's recurring pastel and bronze studies of women at their toilette — work he produced obsessively from the 1880s onward as his eyesight deteriorated, relying increasingly on touch to model his sculptures. Cook Islands has issued numerous art-themed silver pieces under Elizabeth II's authority, a licensing arrangement that has nothing to do with the islands' economy and everything to do with the collectibles market.
