| Obverse description | Antique-finished convex field featuring the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after Ian Rank-Broadley, occupying the left portion of the design, with the legend ELIZABETH II arching above along the upper rim. The radiating, highly textured relief of the Erta Ale volcano's lava flows spreads dramatically across the entire field, converging toward a central concave crater recess inset with an authentic piece of basaltic lava.
