Niue's licensing agreements with major entertainment and technology properties have made it one of the more prolific issuers of themed legal tender since the early 2000s, functioning essentially as a revenue mechanism for the island's 1,600-person economy. This piece is part of that program — Cortana being the AI character from Microsoft's Halo franchise, first introduced in the 2001 launch title for the original Xbox.
