Additional information

The Solomon Islands has become one of the more prolific issuers of licensed Disney themed bullion and collector pieces, a program driven entirely by secondary market demand rather than domestic circulation needs. These coins are legal tender in name only — struck by external mints under license and never intended to see the archipelago's cash economy.

The 1991 animated film drew heavily from Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont's 1756 literary version of the tale, itself a sanitized retelling of Villeneuve's far darker 1740 original.
