| Obverse description | Rectangular flan with rounded corners, framed by an ornate Moorish arch motif with stylized foliate scrollwork at the upper corners. Within the arch, the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, is centered in the field, wearing a diadem and with hair elaborately dressed. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' and 'NIUE' appear above the portrait, while the date '2020' and the denomination '2 DOLLARS' are inscribed in two lines below, separated by a horizontal rule. The engraver's initials 'IRB' appear beneath the truncation of the effigy. |

Niue has operated as a prolific licensing hub for themed bullion since the 1990s, contracting private mints — predominantly the Polish Mint — to produce collector silver on its behalf. The country holds free association status with New Zealand, which underwrites its currency and lends legitimacy to the legal tender face value, though no one has ever spent one of these on groceries in Alofi.
Raphael is one of only three archangels named in canonical scripture, appearing in the Book of Tobit. This release is part of a multi-coin archangel series; the Polish Mint struck comparable issues for Michael and Gabriel under the same Niue licensing arrangement.
