| Obverse description | Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the third portrait by Raphael David Maklouf, depicting the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem and a draped neckline with a drop earring visible. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left rim, NIUE appears at the top, and 2 DOLLARS along the right rim, all separated by small raised dots forming a decorative inner border. The date 2009 is inscribed at the base of the obverse field. |

Niue's authority to issue legal tender coinage derives from a 1975 act of New Zealand parliament, which granted the self-governing territory that right despite having no meaningful domestic circulation economy. These "12 Days of Christmas" pieces were struck by the New Zealand Mint across two years, with the five golden rings installment occupying the fourth release in the series. Collector demand for complete runs drives most of the secondary market activity here.
