Reverse description A finely detailed rabbit sits upright in the centre of the field, its head raised attentively, surrounded by grass and bamboo shoots rendered in naturalistic style. To the left, the date 1999 is inscribed vertically in the field. To the right, the Chinese character for rabbit (兔) is prominently displayed, accompanied below by the Perth Mint centenary privy mark P100. The inscription 2 OZ 999 SILVER appears along the lower field, attesting to the coin's bullion content and purity. A beaded border frames the entire composition.

Additional information

The 1999 Year of the Rabbit is the third release in the Perth Mint's Lunar Series I, which launched in 1996 with the Year of the Rat. Unlike many bullion programs that run indefinitely, Series I was conceived from the outset as a complete twelve-year cycle — a deliberate collector architecture that gave each annual release a fixed scarcity ceiling. The Rabbit issue carries a mintage limit of 70,000 pieces, modest by modern bullion standards and lower than several adjacent years in the same series.
