The "Mini Roo" series emerged from Perth Mint's recognition that sub-gram gold bullion had a genuine retail market — particularly in Asia, where gifting small fractional gold is culturally embedded. At 0.5 grams, this is among the smallest gold bullion coins struck to legal tender specification by any sovereign-affiliated mint, and the .9999 fineness required unusually tight refining controls to maintain consistency at that scale.
