The Mini Kookaburra series was Perth Mint's answer to collector demand for fractional gold at a low entry price point — the 0.5g format sits below any earlier Australian gold bullion increment and was explicitly designed to compete with small European bullion pieces in the gift and novelty market. Perth introduced the fourth Jody Clark-adjacent portrait of Elizabeth II on Australian coinage slightly ahead of the Royal Mint's own transition, giving these small issues a brief window as the most current effigy in circulation. KM#2944 is a one-year type.
