| Obverse description | The obverse bears the third effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Raphael David Maklouf, depicted in right-facing profile wearing the George IV State Diadem and a draped neckline. The legend ELIZABETH II curves along the upper periphery, with AUSTRALIA and the date below, accompanied by the designer's initials RDM beneath the truncation of the portrait. The effigy presents a mature, refined likeness of the monarch in the classic proof style characteristic of Commonwealth coinage of the late 1980s. |

| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a half-length figure of an Aboriginal man positioned at the left of the field, rendered in a stylised yet dignified manner. Above the figure, the Southern Cross constellation is represented by five stars arranged in their traditional southern hemisphere formation. A Grass Tree (Xanthorrhoea) occupies the far right of the design, its distinctive silhouette emphasising the native Australian flora. The denomination 2 DOLLARS appears at the right in clear, bold lettering. The overall composition, designed by Horst Hahne, reflects a celebration of Australia's Indigenous heritage and natural landscape. |
