Holíč — a small Slovak town on the Morava River — was the site of a Habsburg faience manufactory established by Maria Theresa in 1743, one of the few royal ceramics ventures in Central Europe to turn a genuine profit. The connection to Charles III is dynastic rather than geographic: as the current head of the House of Windsor, he appears on Niue's coinage by virtue of the island's status as a self-governing state in free association with New Zealand, itself a Commonwealth realm.
