Additional information

Daphne Odjig (1919–2016) was an Odawa-Potawatomi artist from Wikwemikong on Manitoulin Island whose work bridged Woodland-style Indigenous imagery with European modernist influences — a synthesis she developed largely outside institutional support before belated recognition late in her life. She became the first Indigenous woman elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. The colourized bimetallic format continues the RCM's circulation-tribute series, which has honoured Canadian figures on the toonie since the colourized Remembrance issue of 2004.
