Additional information

The "Te Kiwi Nui" series from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand continues a tradition of oversized silver issues aimed squarely at the collector market — legal tender by technicality, never by practice. This coin carries the first effigy of Charles III approved for New Zealand coinage, sculpted by Dominic Donoghue and adopted following the death of Elizabeth II in September 2022.

Gold-on-silver bimetallic plating of this kind became increasingly common among Pacific-region mints after 2015 as a cost-effective alternative to solid bimetallic blanks.
