Charles III's first effigy on Australian coinage — sculpted by Samlor Polion and approved for release following the King's accession in September 2022 — replaced the long-running Maklouf and then Ian Rank-Broadley portraits of Elizabeth II that had defined Australian circulation and bullion coinage for decades. The Perth Mint moved quickly to introduce it across their premium series. Gold-plated issues of this type are struck to order in limited runs, with the gilding applied selectively to contrast against the fine silver fields.
