The Australian Open commemorative program has become one of the RAM's more commercially aggressive annual releases, with fluorescent pad-printed variants introduced to capture the novelty collector market. Pad printing — a process borrowed from industrial product decoration — allows ink transfer onto curved metal surfaces, but the coating has no established track record for long-term adhesion on circulating coinage, making preservation condition a practical concern for type collectors.
