Additional information

Zimbabwe's dollar was still nominally stable in 1997, but that changed dramatically on December 14th of that year — a date Zimbabweans call "Black Friday" — when the currency lost 75% of its value in a single day following Mugabe's unbudgeted payout of Z$50,000 to each of roughly 50,000 war veterans. This brass 2-dollar coin, struck the same year, entered circulation just as the monetary system it represented began its irreversible collapse.
