Additional information

The Kookaburra series, running since 1990, changes its reverse design annually — a deliberate strategy by the Perth Mint to drive collector demand through enforced obsolescence. This 2024 issue is also the first in the series to carry the effigy of Charles III following the death of Elizabeth II in September 2022, with the Mint adopting the official portrait by sculptor Jody Clark, the same artist whose work appears on circulating Australian coinage.

The gold-over-silver bimetallic plating on these pieces is applied after striking, not before, which affects how the surface responds to handling over time.
