Brandt died in October 1992, and the decision to feature him on the 2 Mark came quickly — the Bundestag approved the commemorative series honoring former chancellors, and this issue entered circulation within two years of his death. It was struck continuously across all five West German mints through the euro transition cutoff, making it one of the last DM types produced before the currency was retired in 2002.
The multi-mint production across Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, and Hamburg again means mint mark collecting is straightforward but necessary — full date-and-mint sets run to dozens of pieces.
