| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of King Sauromates II facing right, rendered in the provincial Greek artistic style characteristic of the Bosporan Kingdom. The effigy displays the king wearing a diadem and mantle, with the portrait executed in moderate relief typical of late 2nd-century Bosporan coinage. A circular Greek legend surrounds the bust, reading ΒΑϹΙΛΕΩϹ ϹΑΥΡΟΜΑΤΟΥ, identifying the issuer as King Sauromates. The coin flan is irregular, as is common for hammered copper issues of this series. A border of dots frames the design near the rim. |
