Additional information

Colombia's 1865 coinage was struck under the federal structure of the United States of Colombia, established by the Rionegro Constitution of 1863 — one of the most radically decentralist constitutions in Latin American history, which handed sweeping autonomy to nine sovereign states. The national mint in Bogotá retained federal minting authority, but chronic silver shortages and political fragmentation made consistent production difficult throughout this decade.

KM#149 is known with mint marks from Bogotá (B) and Medellín (M), and the two facilities produced notably different strike qualities due to differences in equipment and die preparation.
