Reverse description A central shield bearing the arms of Zeeland is surrounded by six smaller shields arranged in a ring, each representing one of the principal cities of the province: Middelburg, Zierikzee, Goes, Tholen, Vlissingen, and Veere, reading clockwise from the top, with the central position reserved for the arms of the first nobleman. Decorative ribbons and foliate ornaments flank the composition, while the denomination indicators are placed at the sides. The circumferential legend, interrupted by floral stops, records the date 1687 and identifies the piece as a new gold coin of Zeeland. The overall layout follows the traditional seven-shield heraldic arrangement standard to Dutch provincial gold coinage of the period.
