Additional information

Brazil's mid-1950s coinage program coincided with the Kubitschek administration's aggressive industrialization push, during which monetary inflation was already beginning to erode the cruzeiro's purchasing power. Within a decade, cumulative inflation would force a denomination revaluation, rendering coins of this face value effectively worthless in circulation — which is why unworn examples are not difficult to find.
