Avittam Thirunal Bala Rama Varma ruled Travancore for just two years, 1798 to 1810, a reign defined almost entirely by the kingdom's deepening entanglement with the British East India Company following the 1795 subsidiary alliance. The chuckram series issued under his name reflects a mint operating under increasing external pressure — Travancore's fiscal autonomy was eroding in practice even as its coinage nominally retained royal authority.
KM#8 is among the shorter-lived type attributions in the Travancore series, struck only in the final year of his reign.
