Obverse description The Cypriot coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a dove in flight carrying an olive branch above the date 1960, the year of independence, all within a shield. The arms are flanked by laurel branches extending symmetrically around the design. The country name appears in three scripts in the surrounding legend: Greek (ΚΥΠΡΟΣ), Turkish (KIBRIS), and English (CYPRUS), separated by raised dots. The coin date 1983 appears in the lower portion of the legend.

Reverse description The central design features two stylized goats arranged heraldically in mirror opposition, derived from a decorative motif on a shallow ceramic bowl dating to the mid-thirteenth century B.C., underscoring the island's ancient artistic heritage. The numeral 2, denoting the face value, appears in bold relief to the upper right of the main device. Flanking the goats are three circular ornamental motifs: one circle enclosing four dots and two circles each enclosing six dots, rendered in a geometric decorative style consistent with the Bronze Age source material. The overall composition is contained within a plain circular border.
