| Reverse description | A stylised frigate bird displayed with wings fully spread occupies the centre of the field, depicted in a bold, graphic art style with feather detailing rendered as parallel incised lines. The bird is shown perched atop a traditional Solomon Islands canoe prow, its head raised and beak open. Two arcing chains of small five-pointed stars flank the central device on either side, evoking the island chain. The denomination 2 CENTS appears in two lines above the bird in the upper field. |

The shift to bronze-plated steel for this issue reflects a broader Pacific monetary pragmatism: solid bronze had become too expensive to justify for low-denomination coins with limited purchasing power in a small island economy. The magnetic core allowed automated sorting and detection, critical as the Solomon Islands' banking infrastructure modernized through the 1990s. The denomination itself was eventually discontinued, a victim of inflation rendering the 2-cent piece functionally worthless long before the series ended in 2006.
