| Reverse description | A wildebeest (gnu) in a dynamic galloping posture occupies the upper half of the reverse, rendered in fine naturalistic detail with characteristic mane, curved horns, and powerful hindquarters, moving to the right across a ground line that divides the field horizontally. Below the ground line, the denomination '2C' is displayed in large, bold numerals occupying the lower field. The engraver's initials 'J.V.Z.' appear to the right of the ground line. The design is the work of Jan van Zyl and reflects the broader South African decimal coinage wildlife theme introduced in 1961. |
