| Obverse description | Central device of the Sol de Mayo — a radiant sun with a humanoid face occupying the field, emitting alternating straight and wavy rays extending to the inner border. The circular legend REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY runs around the periphery, flanked by small decorative ornaments at each side of the base. The date 1869 appears in the lower exergual area, with a small anchor-like symbol to the left and a floral ornament to the right. The entire design is enclosed within a fine toothed or beaded border. |
