| Obverse description | Printed in red on buff paper, the note is framed by an ornate arch supported by decorative columns with scrollwork. Câmara Municipal de Louzada was one of dozens of Portuguese municipal chambers that issued emergency paper cédulas during the acute coin shortage that gripped Portugal from roughly 1917 onward. Silver and bronze had largely disappeared from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply exhausted — and local governments filled the gap with small-denomination paper, often printed on whatever stock was available locally. These municipal issues had no formal central bank backing and circulated only within their issuing municipality.
Louzada's issues are among the more obscure of the cédula series, with surviving examples genuinely rare in any condition — the notes were poorly stored, used hard, and largely unredeemed when the shortage eased.
