Obverse description The obverse features the Guatemalan national emblem at center, depicting a resplendent quetzal bird with wings spread perched above a scroll, which in turn frames a depiction of a Mayan temple or monument rendered in low relief. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA runs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters, flanked by two small decorative rosette stops at the lower left and right of the field. The date of issue appears in large numerals along the lower edge of the coin. The overall design is bold and low-relief, characteristic of the brass coinage of this period.
