Obverse description Central device depicts a crossed cannon and rifle with a quiver of arrows, a cap of liberty on a pole, and other military and civic implements arranged in a trophy composition, all within a beaded border. The legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA curves along the upper periphery in raised Latin letters. The date appears in the lower field beneath the central device. The overall design reflects the republican iconography characteristic of Mexican coinage of the Reform era.

Reverse description The Roman numeral II is prominently displayed in the center of the field, denoting the denomination of two centavos. The numeral is flanked on either side by symmetrical sprays of oak leaves and acorns, their branches meeting at the base of the coin in a tied wreath arrangement. A fine beaded border encircles the entire design. The reverse is free of additional legend, allowing the wreath and numeral to serve as the sole decorative and denominative elements.
