| Obverse description | Central square perforation (cash hole) surrounded by a raised inner rim, with four Chinese ideograms arranged in the traditional cross reading order — top, bottom, right, left — rendering the legend 政和通寶 (Zhenghe Tongbao) in Clerical script (lishu). The characters are cast in relief against a flat field, exhibiting the characteristic angular strokes and horizontal emphasis of the lishu style favored under Emperor Huizong's reign. A plain raised outer rim frames the design. The coin shows a mottled patina of olive-green and brown consistent with excavated Song dynasty bronzes. |
