| Obverse description | Cast bronze cash coin featuring four Chinese characters in cursive running script (xingshu), arranged in the traditional clockwise reading order around a central square perforation: 元 (Yuan, top), 豐 (Feng, right), 通 (Tong, bottom), 寶 (Bao, left). The characters are boldly rendered with the fluid, dynamic strokes characteristic of the xingshu style favored during the Northern Song reign of Emperor Shenzong. The central square hole is framed by a raised inner rim (inner border), with a corresponding raised outer rim encircling the coin's periphery. The flat field between the inner and outer rims is unadorned. |
