Obverse description Cast bronze cash coin of the Northern Song dynasty, issued under Emperor Zhezong during the Shaosheng reign period (1094–1097). The obverse bears the four-character reign title legend 紹聖元寶 (Shaosheng Yuanbao) rendered in elegant seal script (zhuanshu), disposed in cruciform arrangement around a central square perforation — reading top, right, bottom, left. The characters are boldly raised in relief against a flat inner field, enclosed by a raised inner rim surrounding the square hole and a plain outer rim. The coin displays an olive-green patina with areas of malachite encrustation consistent with prolonged burial.
