Obverse description Four Chinese characters in Regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around a central square perforation, reading clockwise from the top: 乾 (Qian), 道 (Dao), 元 (Yuan), 寶 (Bao). The characters are bold and well-formed, occupying the four quadrants of the inner field between the square hole and the raised outer rim. The coin exhibits the standard Southern Song cash format with a plain, slightly raised rim and no additional marks on this face.
