| Obverse description | Cast iron cash coin of standard Song Dynasty round form with a central square perforation framed by a raised inner rim. The four-character reign title legend 嘉泰通寶 (Jiatai Tongbao) is disposed in regular script (kaishu) around the square hole, reading top-bottom-right-left in the traditional cross arrangement. The characters are boldly rendered in raised relief against a flat, unadorned field. A raised outer rim encircles the coin, and the overall surface shows the characteristic texture and patination of a cast iron Southern Song issue. |

| Reverse description | Plain cast iron reverse retaining the characteristic Southern Song format, with a central square perforation surrounded by a raised inner square rim. The mint and date indicators 漢三 (Han San) appear in the fields, with 漢 (Han, denoting the Hanyang Mint) positioned to the upper or left of the square hole and 三 (San, year three, corresponding to 1203) positioned opposite, both rendered in raised regular script relief. The remaining fields are blank, and the coin is bordered by a raised outer rim. The surface displays heavy iron oxidation and earthen deposits consistent with prolonged burial. |
