| Obverse description | Central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform reading order: top to bottom and right to left, forming the legend 洪武通寶 (Hongwu Tongbao). The characters are bold and well-formed, cast in moderate relief against a flat field, with a plain inner rim surrounding the square perforation and a raised outer rim encircling the coin. |
