| Obverse description | Central square perforation surrounded by a raised square rim, with four Chinese ideograms arranged in cruciform fashion reading top, bottom, right, left (top-to-bottom, right-to-left convention): 大觀通寶 (Da Guan Tong Bao), rendered in the elegant Slender Gold (瘦金體) calligraphic style attributed to Emperor Huizong. The characters occupy the four quadrants of the coin field between the central hole and the outer raised border. The coin shows heavy iron oxidation and encrustation consistent with prolonged burial, obscuring fine details of the casting. |
