Obverse description Cast brass cash coin of the southern type, featuring a central square perforation flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in the traditional cross pattern reading clockwise from the top: 崇 (Chong), 禎 (Zhen), 寶 (Bao), 通 (Tong), together forming the reign title legend 崇禎通寶 (Chongzhen Tongbao). The characters are rendered in a robust, slightly irregular Song-style script with raised strokes against a flat field, characteristic of southern mint production. A small dot, diagnostic of this particular variety, appears in the field, serving as a mint or batch identifier. The coin is encircled by a plain raised rim, and the overall fabric shows the slightly uneven surface typical of hand-cast late Ming coinage.
