| Obverse description | Crowned bust of Philip IV facing left, with two pellets visible behind the effigy in the field. The portrait is rendered in a schematic style typical of hammered billon coinage of the period. A partial Latin legend runs along the periphery of the flan, partially off-flan due to the irregular striking characteristic of this issue. |

| Additional information |
The cagliarese was the base fractional currency of Spanish-ruled Sardinia, struck in billon at the Cagliari mint throughout the seventeenth century. Filippo IV's long reign — forty-four years — means examples attributable to this period span a wide production window, and the CNI catalogues significant die variation across the series. The Cagliari mint operated intermittently under viceregal administration, its output often responding to local commercial pressure rather than crown directive.
