| Obverse description | Quartered shield bearing the arms of the Bishopric of Basel, composed of a crozier and the traditional Basel episcopal charges, enclosed within a plain inner circle. The denomination numeral '2' appears above the shield in a small oval cartouche. The encircling legend reads IO • FRAN • D : G • EPIS • BASILIEN • 1654, with the date 1654 integrated into the legend at the left. The overall design is bold and heraldic in character, typical of Swiss ecclesiastical coinage of the mid-seventeenth century. |

| Reverse description | The Immaculate Virgin Mary stands facing, nimbed and crowned, upon a crescent moon, cradling the Christ Child on her right arm. A radiant glory of rays emanates from behind her figure, filling the field. The surrounding legend AVE • MARIA • GRATIA • PLE : encircles the design, invoking the Angelic Salutation. The composition reflects the Marian devotional iconography characteristic of Counter-Reformation ecclesiastical coinage in the German-speaking Swiss territories. |
