| Obverse description | Central field displays the denomination numeral 'II' above the three-line inscription 'MARIEN / GROS:' with 'F.SILB' and the mintmaster initials 'HB' below, indicating fine silver Ausbeute coinage. Two rosettes flank the numeral 'II' at either side. The encircling outer legend reads 'GEORG.L.D.G.D.BR.ET.L.S.R.I.EL.' (Georg Ludwig, by the Grace of God Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg, Elector of the Holy Roman Empire), separated from the central motif by a beaded inner border. The lettering is deeply and crisply struck in a milled, well-centred format typical of late 17th-century Clausthal Mint production. |
