| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a quadripartite cartouche composed of flowing Nasta'liq calligraphy arranged in four registers, reading the pious invocation 'Ya Karim' (O Generous One, an epithet of God and an allusion to the ruler's name), together with the mint name Tehrān and the AH date 1183. The cartouche is framed by an intricate lobed and scrolling arabesque border. The entire design is contained within a broad inner border of large raised beads set against a plain rim, characteristic of Zand-period hammered coinage. |

| Reverse description | Central field bearing a continuous four-line Nasta'liq verse legend in flowing script, reading the Persian couplet proclaiming that 'The sun and moon became gold and silver in the world through the coinage of the Imam, the rightful Lord of the Age (Sahib al-Zaman)', a Shi'a religious formula invoking the Hidden Imam. The inscription is set within an elaborate interlaced floral and arabesque border with fine dot embellishments throughout the field, enclosed by a plain outer rim, consistent with the hammered technique of Zand-dynasty silver coinage. |
