Obverse description Quartered shield displaying the traditional arms of Castile and León: a rampant lion in the upper-left and lower-right quarters, and a turreted castle in the upper-right and lower-left quarters, with a small central escutcheon at the intersection of the quarters. The shield is surmounted by an open royal crown. The flan is irregular and the engraving is of a primitive, locally produced character consistent with emergency Royalist coinage struck at Maracaibo during the Venezuelan War of Independence.
