| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in olive-brown and salmon tones, with the denomination rendered in large Gothic (Fraktur) blackletter script — 'Zwei Millionen Mark' — dominating the centre field. The Sächsische Bank zu Dresden was one of the four German private note-issuing banks still operating under the Reichsbank law of 1875, and it retained that privilege right through the hyperinflation spiral of 1923. This 2 000 000 Mark denomination sits in the middle of that catastrophic progression — by the time notes in this range were being issued in mid-1923, the Reichsmark's purchasing power was collapsing week by week, and denominations that seemed extraordinary in spring were already obsolete by autumn.
Römmler & Jonas were primarily a commercial printing house in Dresden, drawn into emergency currency production as demand outpaced the capacity of specialist security printers.
