Fabrik Stolzenberg G.m.b.H. was a factory-issued notgeld, part of the vast wave of emergency currency that German industrial firms printed for their own workers during the hyperinflation of 1923, when the Reichsbank simply could not produce denominations fast enough to keep pace with collapsing purchasing power. The 2,000,000 Mark face value, staggering by any earlier standard, was already borderline obsolete by the time notes like this reached workers as wages — within weeks, denominations had climbed into the billions.
Oos is a district of Baden-Baden. The firm's notes circulated almost exclusively among its own workforce and were redeemable only locally, which is why survivorship is largely a matter of accident.
