Ravensburg's municipal authority issued this 2,000,000 Mark note during the peak inflationary spiral of 1923, when the Reichsmark was losing value so rapidly that denominations climbed from thousands to billions within months. Like most Notgeld of this period, it was produced locally out of practical necessity — the Reichsbank simply could not print and distribute currency fast enough to meet demand at the regional level.
Amtskörperschaft issues tend to be less documented than larger city emergency issues, making precise print run figures difficult to establish.
