Chalkis, situated on the Euboean strait, remained a commercially active polis well into the first century BC despite operating under Roman oversight following the sack of Corinth in 146 BC. This issue falls within a period when many Greek cities were striking small bronze for local exchange while silver coinage had largely collapsed as a civic product across mainland Greece and the islands.
The SNG Copenhagen 457 attribution places it firmly within a documented sequence, though die studies for Euboean bronze of this period remain underdeveloped relative to the island's historical output.
